ET's VS and TFS World Fascinating tidbits about VS and TFS and .NET (well I hope...)

I think this is my 5th trip to Seattle this year and all has been good ... up to this one.

What is it with people and snow? I live in Montreal and we have Snow, I mean real snow Meters of snow... and the world doesn't stop.  it goes on!

So I got to Sea-Tac at 10pm on Monday, from there going to Redmond is usually a 25min drive, it took me 3h!! there was cars littering the side of the highway, in the ditch, it was like they up and left!  The cars here are not equipped for this kind of weather, low hanging sports car just don't fare well in those conditions.

Anyway it's actually fun to watch the news and see the reports of the weather here ... what 2 inches of snow can do ;-).

I have a few days to go still but the weather is not getting better, more flurries tonight so hopefully by Friday when I leave things will be better.

Ah the joy of winter ;-)

PS We don't even have snow in Montreal yet! What's up with that??

Cheers

At Tech Ed 2005 I had dinner with Matt Ranlett, Brendon Schwartz, and Trisha Lacey; all from Georgia (TL is in Seattle now with Microsoft).

We talked about how there was a "snowstorm" in Georgia one year...only a couple of inches...and it shut down the entire area. Schools were closed, busses wouldn't run, etc.

I started laughing that they would react so harshly to such a small amount of snow. Did I ever get taken to the wood shed!

They pointed out that nobody there had anything but summer tires, so not only were the roads icy but everyone's cars would have 0 traction. Plus nobody buys winter clothing down there (even if it is a few below zero, shorts and t-shirts wouldn't be appropriate).

I guess it just goes to show that us Canucks are hardier people than the warm-weather people in the states. :)

You should live in the UK. Our winters have been so mild for so long (last bad winter that I can remember was 1986) that it only has to rain a little heavier than usual and the entire country closes down. A few leaves fall off the trees (which they did a month late this year) and the trains stop running. An inch of snow, and the economy crashes. When I was a kid, we used to reckon we would be snowed in for a few days most years. Doesn't happen now. My kids (oldest 15) have never seen 'real' snow in this country.

The thing that I truly did not understand was the people walking down the side of the road in the cold and in the dark after leaving their cars on the side of the road. Just speaking personally here, but were I in a position where I simply did not feel comfortable with the road conditions, I would be more apt to stay in my car rather than be an ill-lit pedestrian walking along side an icy road of sliding cars!

I so agree with that. Winter can be pretty crazy for towns that are not used to it.

A "Snowstorm" in canada usualy means 1 ft of snow minimum so we have the "gears of winter war", snow tires, block heaters, cold weather winter coats, etc.

Merry Xmas all.

Cheers,
