Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.

For those of us living in the US, Andre Odendaal might just be the hardest working guy you never heard of.

For the last few months, Andre has been working hard to establish a game development community (dare I say, Industry) in South Africa. Jason and I first spoke to Andre, via an introduction by Julia, several months ago when he was just getting started.

I caught up with Andre this morning over GTalk and chatted him up a bit. Turns out he has been one busy fella. Not only has he established a web community for South African game developers, they have also managed to crank out the first(?) South African Game Development magazine (and it's free). You can check out his blog entry about it here:  http://mailowl.co.za/wordpress/?p=5  or just download the issue directly, here: http://www.mailowl.co.za/Downloads/devmag-issue1.pdf

Andre was also excited to tell me he's working on getting to TechEd for the UG Leader summit, so maybe some of us will run into him there.

And of course, no conversation about game dev would be complete without busting my chops about an update for HA! (it's not dead, I swear it's not!!) so maybe that is in the cards as well.

You're making me blush!!! Unfortunately I can only take credit for a teeny tiny part of the game development community in South Africa and I'm only a contributor of the game development magazine in South Africa.

The credit for the magazine needs to go to Stuart Botma (who's still in school) and Rodain Joubert (who's studying journalism at varsity).

Fengol is a prominent figure in the South African development community... He has achieved so much!

Stuart and Rodain are very talented from what I see in the 'Zine, they should feel honoured to be working under someone like Fengol.
