Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
For those of you that care about this sort of thing...

"Team I.C.E." (and no I'm not going to post a link) is apparently putting the finishing touches on the first XBOX 360 mod chip. Looks like it will be available at the end of this month through various "retailers" for around $70. ("Retailers" was their choice of word, not mine.)

The bragsheet says you can direct boot Xbox 360 ISOs, Rips and Dumps. (It also mentions 20-30 wires depending on xbox revision, which I assume are soldered... and that doesn't sound like much fun to me.)

I never modded my Xbox, although I know folks that have and basically turned it into a Media Center of sorts. I'm not advocating people buy these things, but I can see the curiosity value. Also, I've always been a bit leary of buying something from people who are blatantly breaking the law, since if they decide to just keep your money... what are you really going to do about it?

All humor aside... if the XBox 360 were lacking the Media Center Extender capabilities (like the original Xbox was) I could see modding as an interesting hobby and a way to "get more out of it" but the only obvious use of a mod chip at this point is piracy.
