Management Data Warehouse (MDW) & Performance Monitoring
When:  February 17, 2009
Time:  3:00 PM - 5:15 PM

Session 1:  SQL Server 2008 Data Collection and the Management Data Warehouse
Speaker: Lara Rubbelke, Microsoft
One of the more powerful new features for database administration, diagnostics, and trending is the SQL Server 2008 Management Data Warehouse.  The new Management Data Warehouse leverages a data collector framework to centralize and store SQL Server system and database performance data.  This session will:
1.  Introduce the data collector architecture.  Walk through how SQL Server 2008 collects performance and diagnostic data and presents the information in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
2.  Show how to set up data collection, and configure the Management Data Warehouse.
3.  Demonstrate how to extend data collection to support your own data centralization requirements.
Lara Rubbelke brings her passion for architecting, implementing and improving SQL Server solutions to the community as a Technology Specialist for Microsoft. Her expertise involves both OLTP and OLAP systems, data management, performance tuning, encryption, ETL, and the Business Intelligence lifecycle. She is an active board member of the local PASS (Professional Association for SQL Server) chapter and regularly delivers technical presentations at local, regional and national conferences, user groups and webcasts. Lara authored the Microsoft whitepaper detailing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition features and was a contributing author of "Expert SQL Server 2005 Development". Prior to joining Microsoft, Lara was a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP).

Session 2:  Performance Monitoring

Speaker: Amanda Bates, Robert Half International
In this session, we'll review some SQL statement that I've put together to take a look at the status of my databases and to monitor them over time.
Amanda Bates works for Robert Half International as a full time consultant.  I've been with SQL Server for 11 years now, first in Kansas City and now in the Cities.  I've been here for 4 years.  I'm an aquarious.  ;)
