Notes From Computers 2K8 Radio Show! (October 5th, 2008)

"Good morning everybody, you're tuned to Computers 2K8 on sports radio 850 The Buzz" and so began today's show as we do every Sunday morning from 8am - 10am here in Raleigh, NC. You can download the show from the show's website or you can listen do us live as we stream the show across the web.

Here a few of the topics discussed on this week's show...

Steve Jobs is OK! Really, he's fine...

An unsubstantiated rumor about Steve Jobs having a heart attack was posted Friday morning on the citizen journalism" section of CNN called iReport. The good news is that he's fine. The bad news is the fake story DID cause Apple's stock price to drop.

Bank robber hires decoys on Craigslist, fools cops

I've got to say I laughed out loud when I read this story. The story is about a guy who advertises a job ON CRAIGSLIST looking for road maintenance crew members. He tells them to apply in person ready to work dressed in a yellow work vest, safety goggles, blue shirt, and a respirator mask. What the ad didn't say was that they were being instructed to show up at the same time and location of where he is going to hold up an armored car. Of course he was dressed in a yellow work vest, safety goggles, blue shirt, and a respirator mask to confuse the cops. It worked... though the story doesn't say how much, he got away with a bag full of money.

Can you say The Thomas Crown Affair??? If I were in charge of the investigation I'd be looking for Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. :-)

Flexible screen could lead to foldable computers

This story about a flexible screen technology being developed by Sony looks promising. The one line that really caught my attention was this one:

"Moving images on posters, seen in films such as Minority Report could also be a possibility, as well as cereal boxes with talking images."

The possibility of dynamic posters is pretty cool and is possibly a legit reason for this but a cereal box with talking images?? Really? They couldn't come up with another useful implementation other than a cereal box? Do I really want to hear Tony the Tiger yelling "They're GREAT!" over and over and over while I try to eat my breakfast? Can you imagine what the cereal isle in the grocery store would sound like??? Between "They're GREAT!", "I'm Coo Coo for Coco Puffs", and "Snap! Crackle! Pop! Rice Crispies" you go insane just walking down the isle.

That's all....Have a day. :-|

Microsoft MVP For a 6th Time

"First I'd like to thank all the members of the Academy for their support and their continued confidence in me and my work. Let me add that it was truly an honor working on a film with such a fantastic crew, director, producer, and of course the other actors."

...and so goes how my acceptance speech for an Oscar would go. But today I'd like to thank Microsoft for their continued confidence in me as a technical community leader. This morning I received word that I have received my 6th MVP Award and I couldn't be more honored. Thank you again Microsoft.

Have a day. :-|
