Who hasn’t heard of SharePoint? Since I first started working with it around 2001 it has become the hammer answer for every nail problem. As a product it has grown and evolved over the years and hopefully most of us how learned how best to apply it. This month Michael Blumenthal will address the issues around when to use and when not to use SharePoint 2013 and well as what the latest features are. Be sure to come and join us and bring your questions about the product and implementing it in your environment. ...
So I had a fun day last week and today trying to figure out why a managed metadata column would not get consumed within the search indexer for SharePoint 2013. I spent several days on this issue. I spoke with Corey Roth and various other SharePoint people on twitter. I ran at least 6 full crawls within a few days. I had at least 100 tabs open on FireFox and at least 20 google searches going trying to figure out this issue. I sent an email to an internal dl at work. Then finally Shannon Bray spent ...

So I just had an interesting experience recently at work. I did my first webpart upgrade from Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2012 last week (SharePoint 2010 to 2013). I realized when I deployed the webpart that I got a “this user control does not exist” error, when the ascx file for the Visual Webpart did exist. I’m not sure if it was something simple and ridiculous or if I had to change the entire webpart, but here is what I had to to do to fix things: Open your webpart in Visual Studio 2012 ...
As you guys know I have decided to start delving into mobile development. I bought a Macbook Air a few months back and I am now getting an HTC 8x. Here are some things that I have learned in my attempts to play with both technologies with Office 365/SharePoint 2013: WP8/WP7 Microsoft has created templates for Windows Phone 7 and Visual Studio 2010: http://www.microsoft.com/en... Note that these templates were not created for Visual Studio 2012 and will not work in ...
So I have been doing preliminary work for my iOS talk for a while, but did not get into the meat of the project until recently. One day I envision my talk uploading pictures from a camera on an iPhone or iPad into SharePoint and telling people how I did it. As you know with my Silverlight talk and any new technology, building new talks with new technologies always ends up with some pain points that you must jump over just to grab data. So step 1 always starts out with how do we even access a webservice ...
So I have been standing at the end of a fork for a year peering down a corner looking at this way and that way trying to figure out where I fit in. I was so enthusiastic and excited about Silverlight when it came out. It was this amazing awesome technology that had this really cool animation and webcam/multimedia piece. I thought if I put my money on Silverlight it’s going somewhere, then HTML 5 came out and the wind shifted. I realized times were changing. I have been working with web technologies ...
I haven’t touched an Apple Machine since high school really. I never really wanted to buy one until recently. I have two Apple devices and I wanted to know how to build a mobile application. I have a strong development background in C++ and PHP as my foundation in college, so I thought why not come up with a way to integrate SharePoint 2010 and iOS. I sat on my hands for about 2 months debating what I wanted to get specwise and landed on a MB Air with 8 gb of RAM a core i7 proc and 512gb SSD. I finally ...
